Dirk’s Eye for
the Big Picture

INSIDE RK

From Technical Expertise
to Organization

There are colleagues whose absence would quickly bring quite a few things to a standstill. Dirk is one of them. He keeps many things connected that may not seem related at first glance and makes sure that everything runs smoothly across a wide range of areas. Even when several requests come in at the same time, he keeps track of what needs to be done.

Two Apprenticeships, One Career Path

Technology or office work? Dirk simply chose both. After completing his apprenticeship as an electronics technician for industrial engineering, he first spent five months in Australia. Through Work & Travel, he gained experience far away from his familiar surroundings. After returning to Germany, he completed a second apprenticeship as an industrial management assistant. “Thanks to my technical training, I also know what a screwdriver is,” Dirk says with a mischievous smile.

In 2015, he joined REINHOLD KELLER’s General Contracting division in Kleinheubach. When the Corporate Services team was looking for additional support, Dirk moved into the new department. The different stages of his career continue to benefit him in his role today.

A Fixed Daily Routine? Rarely!

What will be waiting on Dirk’s desk in the morning is difficult to predict. “There really is no such thing as a typical workday for us,” he explains. Among other responsibilities, he coordinates orders, bookings, and billing for employee catering provided by HOFMANNs Menü. He also handles a wide range of individual organizational matters across the Group.

The bee colonies on the company grounds have also become part of his responsibilities. Before taking on this task, Dirk had very little experience with bees. Today, he continues to learn more about these remarkable creatures, which are essential to human life. “I was involved right from the start, from the initial coordination and the arrival of the two colonies all the way to the honey,” Dirk says, adding, “Working with our external beekeeper Verena is a lot of fun and wonderfully straightforward.”

Together with Johannes, Tilman, and Jasmin, the small Corporate Services team keeps many of the things behind the scenes at RK running smoothly. When more complex questions arise, the four of them sit down together to find a solution. “We look at the situation together and figure out the best way forward. Everyone here helps each other,” Dirk says, describing the team spirit.

TAKING A SECOND LOOK

Making quick decisions based on gut instinct is not Dirk’s style. He describes himself as conscientious, which is also how his colleagues see him. “Before I make a decision, I prefer to take another close look and check what is possible.”

His professional experience helps him view situations from different perspectives.

WHAT MATTERS TO DIRK

Dirk has been part of #TEAMRK for more than eleven years. For him, a good workplace is about more than the tasks he handles every day. He also values short lines of communication, straightforward collaboration, and the willingness to support one another. He sees the importance of this kind of environment in his daily work. “For me, it’s the colleagues who make working here what it is,” he says. “I don’t feel like I’m just a number. People listen to you here.”

It’s the Seemingly Small Things That Matter

After work, Dirk looks forward to spending time with his family. His wife, daughter, and son are waiting for him at home, which means a full house and plenty of activity. The passionate home cook finds the right balance by trying out new culinary creations, spending time on the golf course, or enjoying a relaxed walk. “I actually really enjoy going for walks,” he says, adding with a laugh, “Yes, I’m already that old.”

Dirk does not need much more than that to clear his head. And the next morning, there will probably already be another request waiting that does not fit neatly into any one category. One thing is certain: Dirk’s work at REINHOLD KELLER is never boring.
