A Morning in
Our Training
Workshop
At the beginning, only a few wooden components are laid out, and it is still hard to imagine what they will become over the course of the morning. Just a few hours later, the picture looks completely different. The first game pieces drop into the grid, and the first round can begin.
For our 2026 Summer Activities, we once again opened the doors of our training workshop to children from the local community and from our #TEAMRK families. Over the course of two mornings, they had the opportunity to experience firsthand how individual components come together to create a finished piece.
This year’s project was a true game classic. Each child built their own wooden four-in-a-row game and, of course, got to take it home afterward.
From Individual Parts to a Finished Game
Before the games could begin, some hands-on skills were required. The various components had to be worked on, assembled, and carefully put into place step by step.
Guided by our instructors and apprentices, the children learned about different materials and tools and were able to complete many of the steps themselves. It quickly became clear how their own games were gradually taking shape. Along the way, they checked, adjusted, and tested their work. After all, the finished game not only had to look good, it also had to work smoothly.
Experiencing the Joinery Trade Firsthand
Our future joiners normally use the training workshop at our Kleinheubach location to learn the fundamentals of their profession. During the Summer Activities, the young craftspeople took their places at the workbenches instead.
They gained a hands-on introduction to the joinery trade and experienced how much precision, skill, and sometimes a little patience go into creating a finished piece.
The best part was that every child could see exactly what they had created themselves. The pride on many of their faces said it all.
Built, Tested, and Taken Home
After the final test round, the completed four-in-a-row games headed home with their new owners. What remained were two mornings full of new impressions, first experiences with hands-on craftsmanship, and certainly more than a few closely contested rounds.
