Ten New Armchairs

A conversation with a doctor, the next examination, long hours at the hospital. When a child becomes seriously ill, everyday life changes for the entire family. Suddenly, everything revolves around treatments, medical appointments, and worrying about their child. There is often little time left to focus on their own needs.

That is why places where parents and family members can take a break from the hospital environment are so important. The Ronald McDonald Family Room in Erlangen offers just such a place to retreat. It provides space for conversations, spending time together, or simply enjoying a few quiet moments.

Recently, ten new armchairs donated by REINHOLD KELLER were added to the room. And they were put to use sooner than anyone might have expected.

A Home Away from Home and a Break from Hospital Life

The McDonald’s Kinderhilfe Stiftung supports families with seriously ill children. Its work begins when everyday routines are suddenly turned upside down. While Ronald McDonald Houses provide families with a temporary home close to their hospitalized children, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms offer spaces for connection and relaxation right inside hospitals.

One of these spaces is located at the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at University Hospital Erlangen. Here, the foundation’s team ensures that parents and family members find a comfortable, welcoming environment away from hospital rooms. But it is not just the physical space that makes a difference. Above all, it is the people who dedicate themselves every day to making families’ time at the hospital a little easier.

READY TO USE FROM DAY ONE

When we learned that additional seating was needed in Erlangen, we did not have to think twice. And as soon as the new armchairs were in place, the first families were already sitting in them. We could hardly have imagined a better way to welcome the new furniture!

In addition to providing comfortable seating, the armchairs offer another practical advantage. They are lighter than the previous ones, making them easy to move around. This allows the team to rearrange the seating areas as needed, whether for larger group conversations, private conversations between two people, or a quiet moment alone. It is a small change that makes everyday life in the Family Room a little easier.
